Mattel, the famous Barbie-maker have decided to launch an advocacy - cancer awareness among its millions of followers. Mattel will be making a bald version of the doll patterned after the story of two mothers whose daughter lost their mane because of the cancer treatment. Alan Hilowitz [Mattel spokesman] announced that the doll versions will be in production complete with wigs, hats, scarves and accessories and will be classified as a friend of Barbie.

These dolls will not be available for public consumption, instead it will be donated to hospitals and the U.S. National Alopecia Areata Foundation. According to Mattel management "through a thoughtful approach, we made the decision not to sell these dolls at retail stores, but rather get the dolls directly into the hands of children who can most benefit from the unique play time experience."
